I often hear sheep hunters talk about how grueling and difficult sheep hunts are. And no doubt, sheep hunts are tough. But I get a little annoyed by the way sheep hunts are all too often portrayed as the most difficult hunt in North America—they can be, but sheep hunts aren’t in a league of their own; there are other hunts (more affordable hunts) that rival the challenges of a sheep hunt. Perhaps it’s the price tag that enhances the mystique of sheep hunting. Heaven knows that human beings always seem to want what they can’t have. And no doubt, the country that sheep live in make them a formidable challenge. But a lot of DIY, blue collar hunters are never going to be able to afford a sheep or a goat hunt… so I’d like more hunters to realize that an epic mountain hunt experience can be had in North America in the form of the pursuit of old crusty mountain mule deer out west. Mule deer are an icon of the west. And the mountains these mule deer roam are unbelievably wild and anyone with grit can hunt them for the cost of a tag. Over the next 4–6 weeks, Brian and I will both be in and out w/ hunts. But we want to keep the Hideout rolling with our weekly livestreams.
Here’s the plan:
